Tooth Fairy Tips: Creative Ideas to Celebrate Your Child’s First Lost Tooth

Tooth Fairy Tips: Fun Ideas for Parents

Losing a baby tooth is a big moment in every child’s life — and a chance to make dental care fun and memorable! The Tooth Fairy tradition is more than just a bit of sparkle under the pillow — it can be a great opportunity to teach your child about healthy teeth, positive routines, and growing up.

At Dr Mali Dental Clinic, we love seeing how parents get creative with Tooth Fairy visits. If you’re looking for ideas, here are some fun (and simple!) ways to make the experience magical.

1. Leave a Tiny Note from the Tooth Fairy

A short handwritten note can make all the difference. Use miniature paper or glittery pens, and write something like:

“Dear [Child’s Name],

Thank you for taking such good care of your tooth! Keep brushing and flossing, and I’ll be back when your next one falls out!”

2. Give a Small Coin or Treat (Within Reason!)

The going rate for the Tooth Fairy varies, but in the UK it’s typically between £1 and £2. Try a shiny £2 coin or a special commemorative coin from the Royal Mint.

Rather than sweets, consider a tiny toy, a sticker, or a new toothbrush as a reward!

3. Create a “Tooth Fairy Receipt”

Make it official! You can print or draw a receipt showing:

  • Tooth Type: Lower incisor
  • Tooth Condition: Excellent (very clean!)
  • Reward: £2 coin

This adds a playful twist and encourages your child to keep their teeth in tip-top shape.

4. Leave Fairy Dust (Optional!)

If you don’t mind a bit of glitter, sprinkle some “fairy dust” near their pillow or windowsill to show that the Tooth Fairy visited. Just a little sparkle can go a long way!

 5. Read a Tooth Fairy Story Together

There are many lovely children’s books about the Tooth Fairy. Some UK favourites include:

  • “Peppa Pig: The Tooth Fairy”
  • “The Tooth Fairy” by Julia Donaldson
  • “How to Catch the Tooth Fairy”

Sharing a story makes the moment special — and helps reduce fear or uncertainty around losing teeth.

6. Make a Tooth Fairy Box or Pillow

Create a small box or a soft pillow with a pocket where your child can safely place their tooth. This makes it easier for the Tooth Fairy to find — and is a fun craft project to do together!

Bonus Tip: Use the Moment to Reinforce Oral Health

Every lost tooth is a chance to talk about:

  • Why baby teeth fall out
  • The importance of brushing twice a day
  • Healthy food choices for strong adult teeth

The Tooth Fairy can be a great ally in reinforcing good habits and regular dental visits!

When Should My Child See the Dentist?

The British Society of Paediatric Dentistry (BSPD) recommends that children have their first dental visit by age 1. Regular check-ups help us monitor their development — especially as they begin to lose baby teeth and grow adult ones.
